Tummy tuck, technically known as “abdominoplasty”, is a surgical procedure that addresses the 3 components of abdominal wall deformity to create a smoother and firmer abdominal profile.
The 3 components of abdominal wall deformity are: (1) loose or wrinkly skin and stretch marks, usually a result of aging, pregnancy, or significant weight loss; (2) fat tissue, commonly accumulated in the lower abdomen; and (3) muscle weakness and/or separation, which can occur as a result of pregnancy. A tummy tuck procedure will remove excess fat and skin, tighten abdominal wall muscles, and eliminate stretch marks between the belly button and pubis area. If recommended by Dr. Wali, liposuction of the flanks, hips, and/or thighs can be performed in conjunction with an abdominoplasty for an even more dramatic result.
A mini tummy tuck is a less invasive approach with a smaller incision, best suited for those who have only a limited amount of loose skin or stretch marks in the lower abdomen, or above the pubic bone. This approach does not typically involve tightening of the abdominal muscles, and can also be combined with liposuction for a more defined result.
