Not everyone looks good with the nose they were born with, which is why we have qualified and skilled plastic surgeons to give people the nose they deserve. Getting a nose job done correctly is critical, especially for people with non-Caucasian heritage, because these patients’ ethnic features must be taken into account in the creation of their new nose.
Ethnic rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure where changes are made to the structure of the nose while keeping the ethnic features and characteristics of the patient in mind. Sometimes, medical issues such as breathing difficulties can be corrected as well if the patient requires it.
Ethnic rhinoplasty can be performed on any patient who is not Caucasian. People of African, Asian, Hispanic, and Middle-Eastern heritage opt for this kind of cosmetic procedure.
Ethnic rhinoplasty is mostly the same as non-ethnic rhinoplasty. The only difference is that with ethnic rhinoplasty, the surgeon takes into account the racial, cultural, and ethnic background of the patient when devising the treatment plan. The focus of the procedure is on creating a nose that is proportionate with your ethnic features.
What Is the Procedure Like?
Like traditional rhinoplasty, ethnic rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure, meaning that patients are not required to stay overnight after their surgery.
Either local or general anesthesia is administered. Dr. Wali makes one of two types of incisions: open or closed. With the closed technique, the incisions are made in the nostrils, whereas with the open technique, the incision is made on the outside of the narrow area that acts like a wall that separates your nostrils. This narrow area of tissue is known as the columella.
Through these incisions, Dr. Wali gently raises the skin on the nose, thereby providing access to the cartilage and bones so they can be restructured. After he is done making all the changes required to change the appearance of the nose and/or correct medical issues, the tissues are re-draped and the incisions are closed.
What Is Recovery Like?
Patients usually need to wear a nasal splint for about a week after an ethnic rhinoplasty procedure. This splint provides the much-needed support to the nose while it heals naturally.
During your recovery, you may experience mild bruising and swelling. This should not alarm you, as it is completely normal. The swelling and bruising will go away in a few weeks. It may take up to a year or so to see complete results.
Who Is an Ideal Candidate for Ethnic Rhinoplasty?
If you identify with the following, then ethnic rhinoplasty may be the right solution for you:
• You are not satisfied with the shape and appearance of your nose.
• You have medical issues with your nose such as difficulty breathing.
• You are at least 18 years of age.
