Ditch That Spare Tire with a Tummy Tuck

Published on August 6, 2018

Sometimes, no matter how hard you diet and exercise, you just cannot get rid of that spare tire. If you are looking to ditch that belly bulge and have a beautifully flat tummy, you should think about a tummy tuck.

A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that removes the excess flab from your tummy, leaving it looking contoured and trim.

ho Is a Good Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?

Healthy adults who would like a flat tummy may be interested in a tummy tuck. You are a good candidate if:

• You are already at your ideal body weight.
• You have excess flab around your middle.
• You have a healthy diet and exercise routine.
• You have lost a lot of weight and the skin around your abdomen is sagging.
• You have had multiple pregnancies, resulting in loose abdominal skin and muscles.

A tummy tuck is not a good option if:

• You are pregnant, lactating, or planning to get pregnant in the future.
• You are overweight.
• You have a serious medical condition.

Dr. Wali will be able to offer guidance regarding whether or not you are a good candidate for a tummy tuck and what is involved in the procedure.

The Abdominoplasty Procedure

The abdominoplasty procedure is performed under general anesthesia. For this procedure, Dr. Wali will make a curved horizontal incision on your abdomen from one hip to the other. This allows the doctor access to the underlying tissues in the area.

Once the incision has been made, the excess skin is removed. The excess stubborn fat is also removed, and the drooping stomach muscles are retightened with the help of internal sutures. The rest of the skin is stretched, and the incision is closed using sutures.

The bellybutton may also be repositioned so that it remains in its normal position and does not move any lower on the abdomen.

Before and After Your Procedure

Dr. Wali will advise you on the pre-surgery and post-surgery requirements; these usually involve stopping certain medications and avoiding smoking for a couple weeks before and after the procedure.

After the abdominoplasty surgery, you will need to wear a compression bandage around your stomach for a time. Follow Dr. Wali’s instructions carefully for ideal healing and results.

There will be some amount of bruising and swelling at the site of the incision, and this can be reduced with the help of cold compresses. Once the bruising and swelling heals, you will notice the results and can enjoy your flat and shapely tummy.
