Loose skin on the upper arms is a common problem for people of all ages. You may have sagging skin that you cannot correct using exercise. It can happen even if your weight is normal. Aging and hereditary reasons can make the skin lax, and it can eventually sag. Dramatic weight loss may leave you with thinner arms, but it can also create loose skin.
Fat accumulation in the upper arms is another common issue that can occur. Pockets of excess fat can make the arms look misshapen and disproportionate. Some people have a predisposition to have flabby arms even if they are otherwise slim.
Sagging arms can look very unattractive and can cause confidence problems. They may cause your clothes to not fit you well. If you are frustrated living with loose arm skin without a remedy in sight, perhaps it is time for you to consider the arm lift. Arm lift surgery, or brachioplasty, can provide a lasting solution.
Arm Lift Surgery
An arm lift can address loose sagging skin and stubborn fat deposits on the upper arms. If you are troubled by these issues, arrange a consultation to find out more about the procedure. If you are in good health, you may be a good candidate for the surgery. Dr. Wali will decide on the procedure technique based on your aesthetic issues and your surgery goals.
The arm lift can be done under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. Dr. Wali will discuss the best option for you prior to your procedure during a consultation.
After anesthesia has been administered, Dr. Wali will make incisions in the back or the inside part of the upper arm. Fat can be removed with liposuction or through other methods. After removal of excess fat and extra skin, Dr. Wali will tighten the arm tissues and redrape the skin. The incisions will be closed with sutures and bandages will be applied.
Once the surgical swelling subsides, you will be able to see your full results in the form of better-defined and sculpted upper arms.
Recovery and Results
The bandages can be removed in a week’s time or once the healing on your arms is complete. You will need to avoid any heavy physical activities that can put strain on your arms. In about four to six weeks, you may be able to resume your normal physical activities. You may need to take pain medicine or antibiotics during your recovery period.
Results from the arm lift are long-lasting. You can still experience sagging due to the normal aging process or extreme weight fluctuations, but if you maintain your weight in a healthy manner, you can enjoy the results of your arm lift for life. You should maintain a healthy lifestyle to delay aging signs. A healthy diet and a consistent exercise routine can help you maintain the sculpted look gained from your arm lift.
