Breast Reconstruction Inland Empire
Breast Reconstruction Surgery has improved dramatically over the past few years. Thanks to Federal law, breast reconstruction after cancer is now a right and must be covered by all insurance companies. Women seeking breast reconstruction surgery after cancer have more options than ever before to regain natural looking breasts.
Dr. Wali has studied and trained in several plastic surgery techniques that allow him to restore breasts to their near normal shape, size and appearance following a mastectomy. Dr. Wali and his team at Plastic Surgery SoCal understand the sensitivity surrounding post mastectomy body image. They will guide you through your consultation, help you achieve your surgical goals and restore your confidence. During your consultation with Dr. Wali he will discuss all options for surgery and together you will decide how and when to best proceed. Surgical options will depend on the type of deformity present after breast cancer surgery and whether or not radiation therapy was used. Breast implant surgery is a great option for women who have had a small portion of their breast removed without radiation therapy. A history of radiation therapy makes breast augmentation a complicated option for women considering breast augmentation because the radiation increases the chance of the implant becoming hard. In cases in which radiation exists Dr. Wali would suggest reconstructing the breast with your own tissue. During reconstructive Surgery Dr. Wali’s main focus is to construct natural and symmetric breast, so attention is not only paid to the affected breast but equal attention is paid to the breast opposite the mastectomy. Dr. Wali may suggest a breast reduction or breast lift of the unaffected breast to create a more symmetric appearance for both breasts.

Dr. Wali’s techniques for breast reconstruction will vary according to each patient’s individual preference and need. Dr. Wali will help you decide which option is best for you during consultation and pre-surgery meetings. If you are having a breast implant reconstruction, saline or silicone implants will be inserted through a scar than already exists from your previous surgery. If necessary, a tissue expander will be used to stretch the breast skin to the appropriate breast size before the implant is inserted. To achieve the best symmetry between the affected and non-affected breast Dr. Wali may choose to perform a breast lift to the opposite unaffected breast. For patients choosing breast reconstruction using their own tissue, skin and fat from your back, tummy, thighs or buttocks will be transferred to the breast. Each donor sit has their advantages and disadvantages unique to each patient. Dr. Wali will discuss the pros and cons of each are area during consultation and help you choose the best site for fat transfer.
