What Is a Tummy Tuck?
A tummy tuck is a plastic surgery procedure used to contour and sculpt the abdomen, resulting in a fitter and trimmer tummy. This body-contouring procedure involves removal of excess skin and excess fat, tightening of the abdominal muscles and the skin, and removal of certain stretch marks.
One technique which sets him apart from other surgeons is his ability to create a very natural and attractive belly button. One look at the before and after tummy tuck gallery will show that he brings out the best look possible for each patient. He considers each tummy tuck a work of art and strives for the highest standards of safety and beauty.
Dr. Wali and his staff are amazing. Very professional;whenever I come in I always feel welcomed and it’s an extremely comfortable environment. I would highly recommend him. They do an excellent job with appointments and reminders.
Your Initial Consultation
You will be required to schedule a consultation with Dr. Wali before a date can be chosen for your tummy tuck. During this consultation, your current medical health status will be assessed, as will your medical history. An examination will also be performed.
Your eligibility for a tummy tuck procedure will be determined at this juncture. If you are considered eligible, you will then talk to Dr. Wali about the results you are looking to achieve with your abdominoplasty surgery. He will walk you through the details of the surgery, including preparation and aftercare. You can ask any questions you may have.
Patients will need to avoid smoking cigarettes and/or drinking alcohol in the weeks leading up to their abdominoplasty. These activities can negatively affect your immune system and skin health, leading to surgical and post-surgical complications, so it will also be best to avoid them during recovery.
Additionally, avoid taking any NSAIDs before the procedure. These medications can result in bleeding-related complications.
Stock up on ice packs, gauze pads, comfortable clothing, and extra pillows. All these items will help you immeasurably during recovery. If you’re a caregiver and have dependents at home, you will need to arrange domestic help for them in advance.
At the start of a tummy tuck, anesthesia is administered to ensure that the patient is comfortable throughout the surgery and is free of any pain. Once it has taken effect, a curving horizontal incision is created. This incision stretches from hip bone to hip bone and is easily camouflaged with a bathing suit. A second incision may be made around the belly button.
Next, the skin is lifted. Excess fat is removed via liposuction, and sagging muscles are tightened using internal sutures. Excess skin is removed using a scalpel. The remaining skin is redraped. Finally, the incisions are closed using stitches.
Recovery and Aftercare
The recovery process after a tummy tuck requires that the patient wear an elastic garment. This garment encourages the skin to better fit the new contours of the abdomen. It also controls post-surgical swelling. Bruising will also be present for a time but will soon fade.
During recovery and healing, patients must stay home from work and must avoid physically strenuous activities like heavy lifting. Stitches will be removed during a follow-up appointment with Dr. Wali.
Tummy Tuck Cost
The cost of abdominoplasty surgery is different from patient to patient. The price of a tummy tuck is based on the overall surgical time, the techniques used, anesthesia fees, the amount of tissue removed, and many other factors.
